Three killed in Benue rival cult clashes

No fewer than three people were killed when rival cult groups clashed in North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital city.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday that in a renewed clash of the Black and Red cult groups on Monday, one person was killed. Earlier, a source in the area, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak with the media on the issue, said two youths suspected to be members of the rival cult groups, were reported to have been killed last weekend.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the chairman of a vigilante group known as Operation Shara in North Bank, Nura Umar, confirmed the two incidents.
He said, “One person was killed yesterday (Monday) during a clash between Black and Red cult groups around 9:pm
“Last week, the rival cult groups engaged in a violent clash and two people were killed, one of the deceased’s body was taken away, and another one’s head was smashed. We have buried him.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Benue State Command, Catherine Anene, said she was not aware of the two incidents.
She simply said, “I am not aware of the incidents.”
