Early Thursday morning in Nnewi, Anambra State, suspected gunmen killed three policemen and set their vehicle on fire during a violent attack.
The incident was confirmed by Tochukwu Ikenga, the Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer, in an official statement.
Ikenga stated, “A joint security force has launched a manhunt for the armed men who killed two police operatives during their investigation activities this morning in Uruagu, Nnewi North local government area.”

Preliminary reports indicate that the gunmen opened fire upon seeing the police officers and threw an improvised explosive device into their operational vehicle. Tragically, two of the officers lost their lives in the attack, which resulted in their vehicle catching fire.
In light of the violence, the police command has urged the public, especially eyewitnesses, to assist with the ongoing police operations in the area.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m., raising concerns about security in the region.
