On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria held a private meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London. The meeting emphasized the strong and historic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the meeting took place at the request of King Charles. This marks the second time the two leaders have met, following their first encounter at the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai last year.

The discussion centered on important global and regional issues, particularly the urgent challenge of climate change. President Tinubu and King Charles explored ways to strengthen cooperation ahead of the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change while balancing the country’s energy needs. He also expressed Nigeria’s willingness to embrace global sustainability strategies.
Both leaders discussed innovative ideas for climate financing and agreed to enhance partnerships, taking advantage of Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and the Commonwealth.
