A coalition of support groups loyal to the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has vowed to help him to break the tradition of ruling parties failing to win the Federal Capital Territory.
Since the return of democracy in 1999, the FCT has proven elusive to successive governments from the era of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the incumbent administration.
It is a development that has made many political pundits describe it as a jinx no ruling party has been able to surmount.
A coalition of support groups under the leadership of an APC stalwart, Dr Ene Ogbole, on Thursday, launched a mass mobilisation campaign tagged ‘Operation deliver FCT to APC’ with the primary aim of breaking the jinx.
Addressing journalists at the official launch of the project, Ogbole disclosed that they had identified the reason successive president failed to clear the majority of votes in the nation’s capital.
The delectable politician announced that ‘Operation deliver FCT to APC’ was launched to carry along the indigenes and correct the recurring mistakes.
She said, “This operation is a conglomeration of various support groups across the Federal Capital Territory with the singular mandate of delivering Abuja to the party come 2023.
“I know that many of you here will ask why give the FCT to me. First of all, I want you to recall that it is often very difficult for ruling parties to win the Federal Capital Territory. It’s almost like a tradition and people often wonder why. The reasons are not far-fetched.
“But again, going by the achievements of the APC, one would have thought that the FCT should be the first place to be won by the ruling party. It is no news, however, that the Buhari administration has done well, no doubt. Today, we have a man who has taken up the flag of the APC to run for the 2023 presidential election.”
Continuing, Ogbole notes that Tinubu is an asset to the country and needs no advertisement to rally the support of Nigerians ahead of the 2023 elections.
This is as she explained that by the time the conglomeration of various support groups was through with the project, the former governor of Lagos State would clinch about 70 per cent of the FCT votes at the February 25 poll.
“We are giving 110% assurance. In fact, I want to let you know very categorically now that Asiwaju will get 70% and the rest will share 30% because our modalities are in place already. Besides, Asiwaju himself is an asset. He has been able to sell himself to the people. He has done a lot and impacted so many lives. I think it is going to be a different ball game altogether.
“People know him and know what he can do. They know that he’s intelligent, brilliant, a visionary leader, and above all, an icon of mentorship. This is what we want. We want people that can mentor our young people. People that are designed to position us and also see reasons why we should be men and women of goodwill to serve our nation to bring about paradigm shifts that will uplift our society for the betterment of all and sundry,” she reassured.
