GOMBE – The 2023 Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Gombe State, Ahmed Khamisu Mailantarki, has resigned from the party.
Mailantarki lost the election having come third during the last polls where incumbent Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won.
The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammed Jibrin Barde, came second during the election.

Putting his resignation in writing through a letter to his ward chairman at Herwagana ward, Gombe Local Government, wednesday evening, Mailantarki thanked the party for the opportunity given to him to fly the party’s flag during the 2023 Governorship election.

“I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party.
“This will be effective from Wednesday 10th July, 2024. Please accept my resignation letter and be notified from the date stated above.
“I deeply express my appreciation to all the executive members as well as others who saw me through my entire journey in 2023 elections while contesting for the office of the Governor in Gombe State under the platform of the NNPP,” he said in the letter.
However, Mailantarki did not reveal the new political party he would join but said NNPP had given him a chance that prepared him well for the challenges ahead.
