    The murder trial of 12 suspects connected to the death of Police Inspector Christiana Erekere has faced a delay in the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt.

    The suspects are facing 13 charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and murder. Inspector Erekere was killed on April 25, 2024, while on duty at a police checkpoint in the Taaba community of the Khana Local Government Area.

    Reports suggest the incident began when a police team questioned the documents of a vehicle the suspects were in. This led to a mob attack that resulted in Erekere’s death.

    The defendants include Joy Uheraka, Shirley Wealth, Napoleon Uheraka, Ejiro Ejogbamu, Moses Agege, and Precious Iyota. Others in court are Kikelomo Odusanyo, Wealth Ojoh, Efeoghene Uheraka, Ighofose Oke, Blessing Ovie, and Emeka Joshua.

    During the court session on Tuesday, one of the defendants informed the judge that she had not yet found a lawyer to represent her. As a result, trial Judge Justice Augusta Chukwu postponed the case until November 15, 2024, given the circumstances.

    It has been reported that the suspects were traveling from Delta State to Akwa Ibom State for a wedding when the alleged crime took place.
