The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has presented its 15th witness in the ongoing trial of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over alleged money laundering. The witness, Joseph Machleb, testified before the court on Thursday.

Machleb, a mechanic at Samchase Nigeria Ltd., co-founded JJ Technical Services Ltd. with his brother and explained that they entrusted a man named Azeez Michelle to seek contracts on their behalf. However, Machleb clarified that he never gave Michelle permission to purchase property or make financial transactions without his approval.

During cross-examination, the defense lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), questioned Machleb about a document he signed on November 20, 2013, which appeared to contradict his earlier testimony. Machleb admitted to signing the document and expressed concern about potential problems within his company after his brother informed him of issues.

Machleb maintained that JJ Technical Services Ltd. conducts legitimate business operations and stated that he was unaware of specific documents, labeled MM1 and MM2, referenced in the case. While he recognized Fayose from television as the former governor, Machleb denied having any business dealings with him during his time in office.

Machleb also denied knowing Biodun Agbele, another individual linked to the case, and said he had no involvement in any transactions with him. He recounted his visit to the EFCC, where he was shown an agreement involving his company and the first defendant.

When further questioned by defense counsel Uchenna Njoku (SAN), Machleb confirmed his trust in Michelle to represent JJ Technical Services Ltd. in business matters.

Ayodele Fayose is facing charges related to N6.9 billion in fraud and money laundering, with 11 counts filed against him. The trial has been adjourned until October 18.
