Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election during a campaign event in Palm Beach, Florida, while the final vote count continues.
According to reports from major news outlets, including NBC News, Fox News, AP, and CNN, Trump has won the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania, bringing him to 267 of the needed 270 electoral votes. Vice President Kamala Harris currently has 224 votes. The Republican Party appears to be gaining control of the Senate, while results for the House of Representatives are still pending.
International leaders have begun to acknowledge Trump’s anticipated win, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extending his congratulations. Calling Trump’s apparent victory “impressive,” Zelenskyy expressed support for Trump’s “peace through strength” approach, saying it could bring “just peace in Ukraine closer.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán praised Trump’s win as “the biggest comeback in U.S. political history.” Orbán’s Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjártó, echoed these sentiments, suggesting that Trump’s leadership offers a greater chance for peace in Ukraine, where war has persisted for nearly three years. France’s President Emmanuel Macron also extended his congratulations, expressing readiness to work with Trump for “peace and prosperity.”
During his campaign, Trump frequently stated he would reassess U.S. financial aid to Ukraine, favoring a quick resolution to the conflict even if it involves Ukraine ceding occupied regions to Russia. He criticized the extensive U.S. spending on Ukraine’s defense, saying he would use negotiations to bring a swift end to the war.
In past comments, Trump mentioned he could negotiate directly with both the Ukrainian and Russian presidents to end the conflict but has also called Putin’s terms for peace “unacceptable.” However, he has been openly skeptical about Ukraine’s chances of military victory and critical of Zelenskyy, whom he previously described as “the greatest salesman on Earth” for securing extensive U.S. support.
