Two arrested over lynching of alleged cable thief in Lagos

Two suspects have been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly killing a man, simply identified as Monday over alleged theft of cable.
Lagos Police command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects over the murder of alleged cable thief in Lagos.
Hundeyin said that Alausa Police Division received information from a concerned member of the public about the case on Sunday at about 4:00 p.m.
He said the suspect was strangled after he was beaten to stupor.
“The informant said that at about 3:00 a.m. of same date, he received a call from one of his brothers that one Monday has been lynched to death by some group of boys,” Hundeyin said.

He said that the suspects and others still at large, conspired and murdered Monday after he was indicted for cable theft.
“After Monday was beaten to stupor, the suspects used copper wire to tie his neck and strangled him to death,” he added.
He said that the corpse had been recovered and evacuated to the morgue at Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, for preservation and autopsy.
According to him, investigation is ongoing.
