Two wood merchants have been rescued, and two others are missing following a boat capsizing in the Gbodo Jego River in Ijofin, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 7:00 p.m.
The victims, identified as Ahohe Seido and Dogbon, along with the survivors, Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh, were reportedly transporting firewood to the Benin Republic for sale.
The Ogun Police Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the survivors informed the command about what happened.

The survivors explained that the boat overturned due to a sudden strong current, leading to everyone onboard falling into the water.
Despite intensive search efforts by divers, the missing individuals have not yet been located.
“During their journey across the river, an unexpectedly strong current caused their boat to overturn, leading to everyone onboard falling into the water. Despite rescue efforts, only two individuals were saved and brought to the riverbank.”
Odutola mentioned that investigations are currently being conducted to ascertain the details of the boat incident and verify the statements provided by the two survivors.
