The Ondo State Police Command announced on Thursday that they had arrested a driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, responsible for the fatal accident that resulted in the deaths of two students from the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji.
The tragic incident occurred on the Akure-Ondo Expressway in the Olokuta community in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola were reportedly riding a motorcycle when a speeding Toyota Camry car collided with them, causing their immediate demise.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, verified the driver’s arrest and mentioned that the suspect is currently in police custody, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to a morgue.
“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the morgue while the driver of the vehicle is already in police custody,” the PPRO stated.

Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, from the Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, also stated that the accident was likely a result of excessive speed and improper overtaking.
Ibitoye stated, “The crash occurred at the Best Solution Polytechnic area at Olokuta, Ondo Road. A motorbike, red in colour, was involved. It was a head-on collision where three people were involved and two of them died immediately. The probable cause of the crash was speeding and wrong overtaking.”
The FRSC chief emphasized the importance of road users exercising patience and adhering to traffic regulations while driving.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council, Ondo State Chapter, issued a statement expressing sorrow over the incident, labeling it as a significant loss to the student community.
The statement was collectively signed by Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua, Oluwanishola Ajibola, and Kehinde Blessing, who hold the positions of chairman, General Secretary, and Public Relations Officer of the association respectively.
