Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives for Ideato North and South, has called on governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to travel to Rivers State and show support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Ugochinyere expressed disappointment that none of the PDP governors have openly backed Governor Fubara as political tensions escalate ahead of the October 5 local government elections.
In a statement released on Friday, Ugochinyere praised Governor Fubara for his bravery in standing firm against threats from police forces and other political actors within the state. He criticized PDP governors for not showing up in person to offer support.

“Serious opposition governors should have already flown to Rivers State and stood beside Governor Fubara in a clear show of strong solidarity. The voting rights of Rivers citizens are under threat from federal agents, and you are sitting idle. This is not the time for inaction,” Ugochinyere said.
He urged PDP and opposition governors to travel to Rivers State and stand firmly with Governor Fubara, who has been defending democracy despite challenges. According to Ugochinyere, their presence would send a message of unity and strength.
The lawmaker also warned the governors that the political crisis in Rivers could soon affect their own states, stressing that the actions they take now could have long-lasting effects on democracy across the country.
He condemned the alleged attempt by police officers to seize election materials ahead of the local government elections, calling it a treasonous act. Ugochinyere urged the opposition governors to denounce the incident strongly and show that they are true leaders within the party, rather than being intimidated by internal political factions.
