    The Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial district and former Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has defeated candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic (PDP) who is the current deputy governor of the state, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya in Saturday’s supplementary elections.

    Senator Wamakko of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after defeating his closest rival Manir Dan’Iya with a margin of 23,023 votes.

    According to the Returning Officer for the Sokoto North senatorial election, Ibrahim Magawata, Aliyu Wamakko of APC scored a total number of 141,468 to defeat Manir Dan’Iya who polled 118,445 votes.

    With his victory at the polls, Wamakko who is the APC Leader in Sokoto State is returning to the red chamber for the third term.
