ILORIN – Coach Aliyu Zubairu, the head coach of the triumphant Flying Eagles of Nigeria at the recently concluded WAFU B Under 20 Championship in Lome, Togo, has disclosed that his team had a mere 37 days to prepare for the championship they clinched last week Wednesday.

With the assurance of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria securing a place in AFCON, the team is now eligible to compete for a spot as one of Africa’s four representatives in the FIFA Under 21 World Cup in Chile.
“In the period between my appointment and assuming the role, we had just 37 days to ready ourselves for WAFU B. Moreover, we only retained three players from the previous Under 20 squad, necessitating the recruitment of new players for the tournament,”expressed the coach.
Coach Zubairu also expressed gratitude towards the technical department of the NFF, highlighting the invaluable assistance provided by Coach Austin Eguavoen, the technical director. Eguavoen’s access to eligible players in the database streamlined the selection process significantly.
“As a club coach, I consistently scouted for talented players, even amongst my adversaries,”he added.
Coach Zubairu also serves as the technical advisor of El Kanemi Warriors, currently occupying the fourth position in the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL standings.
