Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has explained why opposition parties usually lose out during Local Government elections to ruling parties.

OGSIEC, through her Commissioner Babatunde Osibodu during a stakeholder meeting with political party leaders said the major reason opposition parties keep losing was because they don’t campaign the way they should during the LG elections.

According to him, political parties already believe they have lost before the election date, hence they don’t put in enough energy the way they do during general elections.

He however enjoined them to campaign vigorously and paste posters of their candidates campaigning from wards to wards.

He asked them to encourage their voters to come out and vote them in. Once all these are done, he said, there is no way other parties will not win LG elections.

He also advised them to send their party agents to polling Units to ensure accurate collation.

“In time we have observed that political parties do not campaign during local government elections. They give up even before the election date while the ruling party comes out to campaign, paste posters and encourage their supporters to come out to vote.

“I will urge you to campaign vigorously and encourage your supporters to come out to vote,” he advised.

Also speaking, the former Permanent Secretary to Ogun State on Energy, Engr Olabode Onatola admonished political parties present to join hands with the commission to ensure a free and fair election.
