ABUJA  – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike has stated that commercial buses and taxis will no longer be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers on Abuja roads. This decision follows his inspection of the ongoing construction of the Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals.

Wike , emphasised that once completed, all commercial transport must operate from these terminals.

He expressed satisfaction with the construction’s pace and quality, noting that the projects will transform Abuja’s landscape and enhance transportation in the capital.

He stated, “Once these terminals are finished, we won’t permit buses and taxis to operate on the roads. Everyone will have to use the terminals. I’m thrilled with the progress at the Mabushi terminal, which was launched in July. In just three months, significant work has been accomplished.”

The project is scheduled for completion in 15 months, but the contractor indicated it may be finished sooner, potentially by January.

Wike praised the quality of work and expressed confidence that residents would soon benefit from improved transportation systems long overdue.

Regarding the bus terminal for the Abuja Central Business District, Wike mentioned that previous issues have been resolved, allowing construction to move forward.

He noted, “We faced some challenges, but we’ve addressed them. There were several underground facilities that needed coordination with the FCDA. Work will soon commence in earnest.”

During the Minister’s tour of the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals, Engr. Abiola Otunola, CEO of Planet Projects, reported that substantial progress has been made and that the company is working diligently to complete the project by January 2025.
