    DAMATURU – As part of efforts to improve the livelihood of the flood victims, the Yobe State Executive Council meeting under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni has received a memo from Dr. Mairo Ahmed Amshi, the Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for the Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCE) to assist the 2024 flood victims as a disaster strategy.

    She revealed today while briefing newsmen shortly after the Exco meeting held at the Government House, Damaturu.

    According to her, the sum of N1,436,500,000.00 has been earmarked to cover all the affected areas. “Survey has been conducted, and we are yet to complete the survey in all the 17 LGAs of the state; we are targeting 150 locations that have been identified while we are continuing with the survey to identify the 1,500 flood victims. In each of the LGA, we have proposed an N50,000 cash transfer to each victim, and we are working in collaboration with other International Organization Partners and with some identified Banks where this money will be sent directly to the beneficiaries; the Council has given the approval.”

    Also briefing journalists, on the outcome of the Exco communique, the Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Industry, Kaigama Umar Yunusari revealed that they have approved ratification on the ongoing construction of modern markets in Ngalda, Fika LGA and Yunusari town respectively, which according to him each will require the sum of N2 billion. “In addition to this there’s construction of sesame seed points awarded in four major towns of Machina, Nguru, Potiskum and Damaturu.

    On his part, the Ministry of Works Commissioner, Umar Wakil Duddaye said that his Ministry is providing rural roads to complement the State Government’s agricultural revitalization program on the Fika to Maluri road and Gashua to Massba respectively.
