Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, has warned the former governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that no amount of his threats could intimidate the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu.
Abbas spoke following an allegation by the NNPP that the Federal Government and the APC were working hard to create a new breed of Boko Haram insurgents in the state.
Kwankwaso’s comments on Monday had its background in the tussle for the throne between Mohammed Sanusi and Aminu Ado Bayero which is before various courts.
Abbas, while responding, urged security agencies to invite Kwankwaso for questioning to establish the identities of the enemies of the state he alleged were attempting to create a new breed of insurgents in the state.
He argued further that his remark was a pointer to a sinister motive by Kwankwaso and his cohorts to unleash trouble in the state.
“Kwankwaso has for long been a security threat to Kano and the nation, in view of his antecedents. He runs a cult-like movement in which he has been widely accused of recruiting youths, mostly school drop outs to unleash terror on the people in the state.”
The chairman claimed that before and during the 2023 general elections, thousands of such youths were recruited and empowered to intimidate the unsuspecting public through physical attacks, destruction of perceived opponents’ property and snatching of mobile phones.
The chairman further alleged that during the long drawn legal battle over the governorship election, Kwankwaso and his associates had threatened to kill the judges of the tribunal should the outcome turn out to be unfavourable to them.
Abbas said since the forceful enthronement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, hundreds of weapon-brandishing thugs have been recruited and stationed at the Emir’s Palace in Kano, where all sorts of illicit substances are openly being sold, posing a threat to residents within and around the palace.
