The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra and Delta States’ Police Commands have agreed to suspend checkpoints at the Onitsha end of the Niger Bridge to ensure free flow of traffic during the Yuletide.

The Anambra State Sector Commander of the corps, Mrs Joyce Alexander, said this in an interview in Awka on Tuesday.

Alexander spoke on some proactive steps the corps had initiated to address potential traffic challenges during the festivities.

She said that the corps had requested for assistance from the Anambra Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Obono-Itam, and his Delta counterpart to suspend checkpoints at the bridgeheads.

“As part of efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow at the Onitsha Bridgehead during the festive period, we will be collaborating with the Anambra and Delta State Police Commands.

“CP Obono-Itam invited his Delta counterpart, CP B.S Oluwafemi, to join us for an on-site assessment of both bridges in Onitsha to address potential traffic challenges,” she said.
