Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has appointed Dauda Iliya as his new Special Adviser on Media and official spokesperson, replacing the late Mallam Isa Gusau, who passed away in February 2024.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media.

Dauda Iliya, the current chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Borno State, hails from Kwaya-Kusar Local Government Area in the southern region of the state.
Iliya holds a bachelor’s degree in English Linguistics from the University of Maiduguri and earned a master’s degree in Mass Communications from the same institution in 2024. He is also an active member of professional organizations like the NUJ and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters.
Before his appointment, Iliya worked as a reporter for the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), covering Borno State.
