    Suspected bandits on Thursday night invaded the Confluence University of Science and Technology, (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State and kidnapped an unspecified number of students.

    The students who were preparing for their semester examination were said to have gone to their classes to read when the attackers invaded the school.

    A member of the Osara Community told The Guardian that the security operatives in the university put up a serious fight but were overpowered because of the large number of assailants.

    He added that some of the students who took cover in the nearby bush have all returned to the school.

    “The security personnel in the school put up a serious fight. But the invaders were more in number. I was watching them from where I was taking cover across the road,” the source said.

    “If the government can increase the security personnel in the school it will help. There is also a need for a military post close to the school for quick response.

    As at the time of filling this report, the university authority were said to be carrying out a head count of the students to be able to ascertain the actual number of students that have abducted.

    The Vince chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, in Kogi State, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahaman Asipita Salawu, confirmed that some gunmen invaded the university on Thursday night and abducted some students.

    He said those abducted were students who were gathered for tutorials ahead of their First Semester Examinations scheduled to commence on Monday 13th May, 2024, saying that the exact number of our students involved is being ascertained at the moment.

    Kogi State Police command is yet to speak about the abduction as of the filing this report.

    This attack was coming barely two months, when bandits invaded Agojeju-Odo Community in Kogi, killing several persons.
