Lawmakers from Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa Houses of Assembly have expressed worry over the increasing number of out-of-school children in their various states and pledged to expedite actions on the domestication of Policy Framework on the reduction of out-of-school kids.

Speaking separately at a two-day stakeholders’ engagement meeting organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund for the three states on retention, transition, and completion of education and out-of-school children, Hon. Nasir Ahmed Ala said that the Bauchi Assembly was ready to domesticate the National Framework Policy.

Ala said as a teacher and a lawmaker in Bauchi is disturbed about the rate of out-of-school and drop-out children particularly the over 10 million figure at the primary level. He vowed that the State House of Assembly is ready to pass the Policy Framework from first to third reading within four weeks.

He said because of his passion for quality education and being the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, ‘I will ensure that the framework is domesticated and becomes operational in the state,” the Lawmaker representing Chinade/Madara Constituency stressed.

He also assured that having attended the meeting with other colleagues from the three states, they will liaise and ensure that the Assemblies consider the framework and domesticate it in the various states for the good of the children.
